Originally from Dulce, New Mexico, Alan Tafoya is a member of the Jicarilla Apache Nation. He gained his first stage experience as a child, performing in small theater and comedy shows within his neighborhood. During his school years, he deepened his interest in acting and appeared in various theatrical productions.

His professional acting career began in 1998 with the stage play *The Black River Traders*, which led to his first film role in *All the Pretty Horses*. In addition to his work as an actor, Tafoya is also active as a singer, songwriter, and musician. Furthermore, he serves as a cultural consultant, fight choreographer, producer, writer, and creative advisor for film and music projects. His work frequently explores Indigenous culture and the traditions of the Jicarilla Apache people.
